Summary
A moving sculpture children can assemble using LEGO components. The kit demonstrates mechanical engineering concepts — gear ratios, rotational motion, and system design — while remaining easy to build and visually compelling. A key mechanical challenge was producing smooth, counter-rotating motion from a single motor input.
Blade Design & Fabrication
- Blade patterns inspired by David C. Roy’s ‘Infinity’ and ‘Vice Versa’ sculptures.
- SVG patterns designed for straightforward fabrication from readily available materials (e.g., cardstock).
Educational Design
- Packaged the mechanism and parts into a self-contained activity that highlights core engineering principles through hands-on assembly and observation.
- The LEGO-based approach enables learners to disassemble and experiment with gear ratios and motion parameters.
